Community Health and Housing Committee.

This is a picture of our member, Roger Steel presenting a check to the administrator of the Sea Island Habitat for Humanity. This organization helps build houses on Johns and Wadmalaw Islands for selected families in need. They rely on volunteers to assist in building these homes and many of our members have helped them over the years.

Another great charity that our Community Health and Housing Committee supports is the Water Wellness Mission  - Providing clean water to one "in need" family at a time. Living on Kiawah and Seabrook Islands is a dream few get to enjoy. It's hard to believe that just around the corner from this paradise there are children, elderly and families that live without clean drinking water in their homes. Until 2016, this need for water wells had gone undetected. With the distribution of healthy foods to the needy, the discovery of hundreds of family members living without clean water was realized. For these folks, healthy drinking water was available only with the purchase of bottled water or filling water containers at their local churches. Sponge baths became a weak substitute for showers and young mothers used expensive bottled water for bathing their babies.

To date Water Wellness Mission has installed 130 new well and filtration systems serving over 300 family members on Johns and Wadmalaw Islands. There is still an urgent need and the Exchange Club of Kiawah-Seabrook is helping to meet that need.
